SEAT
is in the middle of a teaser campaign for the all-new Leon compact hatchback,
ahead of its world debut on January 28. Now,
the Spanish automaker is giving us a better look at the design of the fourth-generation
Leon via its Cupra performance division, teasing us with the upcoming Leon
Competicion touring car racer.
This new TCR race car will be based on the next-generation
SEAT Leon. In the photo, we can see part of the rear end, including the
triangular shape of the LED taillights that are connected by an illuminated
strip. These will be present on the production car too, as will the powerful
waistline and sporty window line.
Other
elements, such as the wild widebody kit, fixed rear wing and motorsport rear
bumper, are reserved for the Cupra Leon Competicion touring car racer. Speaking
of the competition variant, Cupra has already opened pre-bookings, a first for
a touring race car. All pre-booked TCR race cars will be delivered exclusively
at the brand’s new headquarters from April 2020. The
2020 Cupra Leon Competicion is said to feature improved aerodynamic efficiency
and will benefit from a full kinematic geometric setup in both axles that use
lightweight components to improve weight distribution.
Other
enhancements include a more robust shifting unit and a 2.0-liter turbocharged
gasoline engine delivering increased performance. Finally, Cupra says the
racing electronic architecture is lighter, more robust, modular and customizable. The development of the new TCR race car is
in its final phase, with track testing already underway since last October in
Spain, Portugal and Italy. The Cupra Leon Competicion will make its world debut
at the beginning of 2020, perhaps simultaneously with the 2020 SEAT Leon on
January 28.
