Jaguar has unveiled the facelifted F-Type. Looking instantly recognizable, the updated model has an aggressive front fascia that features a larger honeycomb mesh grille. It is flanked by slimmer headlights and sportier air intakes.
The rest of the model largely carries over, but buyers find a new hood, restyled wheels and updated front fender vents. The styling changes continue out back as there’s a modestly revised rear fascia and new taillights that ditch the circular accent featured on its predecessor.
Inside, drivers will find a familiar interior. While most components carryover, there’s a new 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a Touch Pro infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. Speaking of the infotainment system, it now has software-over-the-air functionality so future updates can be delivered without a visit to dealerships.
Under the hood, an assortment of engines will be available including an entry-level turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that produces 296 hp and 400 Nm of torque. This enables the car to run from 0-96 km/h in as little as 5.4 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 250 km/h.
Buyers looking for more power can opt for a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 that develops 444 hp and 580 Nm of torque. The engine is connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission which can be paired to an optional all-wheel drive system. Regardless of whether or not the model is equipped with AWD, the car accelerates from 0-96 km/h in 4.4 seconds and has a top speed of 285 km/h. For those seeking the ultimate in performance, there’s the upgraded F-Type R which now produces 567 hp and 700 Nm of torque. Thanks to the extra oomph, the model runs from 0-96 km/h in 3.5 seconds and tops out at 299 km/h.
Speaking of the F-Type R, the car features a “comprehensively uprated chassis” which sports “new adaptive dampers, springs, anti-roll bars and stiffer rear knuckles and ball joints.” The model has also been equipped with wider 20-inch wheels.
Both V8 models also have a new Quiet Start function. It enables the car to be started without waking up the neighborhood. In order to do this, the models have been equipped with an exhaust system that features electrically-actuated bypass valves which remain closed at startup. US customers miss out of the entry-level V8 engine, but they get a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 that produces 380 hp and 459 Nm of torque. While it isn’t as powerful as the V8, the model comes standard with all-wheel drive as well as a limited slip differential and torque vectoring.
The facelifted F-Type is currently available to order in the United Kingdom and pricing starts at £ 54,060.
