Baojun, one of GM’s most active brands
lately, has released the first photos of its latest new energy vehicle (NEV)
for China. The as-yet-unnamed mini adopts Baojun’s new interstellar geometry
design language and looks much sleeker than the similarly-sized E100 and E200
EVs.
Key styling features of the new
two-seat electric vehicle include the split body design highlighted by the
two-tone exterior, as well as the ‘hui’ character shape of the front bumper.
Baojun says the front fascia echoes the pattern of radar waves, making the
vehicle easily recognizable “while hinting at the intelligent technology
inside.
Other interesting exterior details
include the flat design of the bottom of the doors made from scratch-proof
material, the hidden door handles, and the cruciform wheel design. The pop-out
handles and aero-styled wheels are said to reduce wind resistance, a
significant advantage for any EV. Baojun did not reveal when the new mini EV
will be launched but did say that it will complement the existing E100 and E200
models. Nothing was divulged about the drivetrain either.
It remains to be seen if it’s related
to the Baojun E200, which offers a driving range of up to 270 km on
a single charge at a constant speed or 210 km on the New European
Driving Cycle (NEDC). Obviously, the real-life range is lower than that. Baojun
says the continued introduction of NEVs “complements the growth of its advanced
intelligent family of vehicles featuring conventional powertrains” while also
creating more transportation solutions for Chinese customers.
