The
Tokyo Auto Salon is just around the corner and Toyota Industries Corporation
has previewed a modified Toyota RAV4 that will debut at the event. For those that don’t know, Toyota
Industries Corporation is a machine manufacturer and one of the many companies
within the Toyota Group. It spends much of its time developing and building
forklifts, but is also in charge of RAV4 production at Toyota’s Nagakusa plant.
The
RAV4 in question, dubbed the ‘Adventure Gear’ concept, comes equipped with a
host of modifications to make it well suited to off-roading. For example, the
SUV has been equipped with beefy off-road wheels and tires and also features a
distinctive bodykit that includes side steps. Elsewhere, a prominent roof rack
has been designed and while we don’t yet have any images of the RAV4’s rear, we
are told it will feature a small ladder making it easy to climb onto the roof.
At
this stage, it remains unknown if such an edition, or any of the
off-road-inspired parts, will make it to production. Last month, Toyota introduced the new 2021
RAV4 Prime at the Los Angeles Auto Show. This variant is powered by a 2.5-liter
four-cylinder with 176 hp and 228 Nm of torque operating alongside
a rear-mounted electric motor that pushes combined grunt up to 302 hp. The
sprint to 96 km/h takes a mere 5.8 seconds and the SUV has an
all-electric range of 63 km.
