The 2020 Mazda MX-5 will arrive in
dealerships this February, featuring a starting price of US$ 27,500 (including a US$ 920 destination and handling charge). The new model year introduces new color
options to the range of Mazda’s popular roadster, as well as more safety kit as
standard on the base Sport model.
All models in the range are powered by
Mazda’s naturally aspirated 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G engine, producing 181 HP and
151 lb-ft of torque. Customers can still choose between a six-speed manual or a
six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters on the steering wheel.
The entry-level 2020 Mazda MX-5 Sport now
features more i-Activsense safety gear, including Blind Spot Monitoring with
Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Smart City Brake Support and Lane Departure Warning
System, as standard. Other features include a black soft-top, 16-inch black
alloy wheels, LED headlights and taillights, a seven-inch Mazda Connect
infotainment system, keyless entry and more.
Next up in the range we find the
harder-edged MX-5 Club and the more luxurious Grand Touring trim levels. Both
models are offered either with a traditional soft top or the RF’s foldable hard
top. Mazda is offering a new Polymetal Gray color option for the Club and Grand
Touring variants.
When fitted with the slick manual
transmission, the 2020 Mazda MX-5 Club features a limited-slip differential,
Bilstein dampers, a front shock tower brace and a sport-tuned suspension. The
equipment list also includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for the first time
in an MX-5, a Bose nine-speaker audio system, heated black cloth seats with
silver stitching, 17-inch Metallic Black alloy wheels, a front air dam, a rear
spoiler, and more.
Customers can also opt for the Brembo/BBS
Recaro Package if they choose the MX-5 Club with the manual transmission; this
adds Brembo front brakes, 17-inch BBS Gunmetal forged wheels, heated Recaro
Sports seats and a black aero kit.
For the 2020 model year, Mazda has updated
the MX-5 Grand Touring model with the manual transmission to now include the
limited-slip differential, Bilstein dampers, front shock tower brace and sport
suspension that were previously found only in the Club trim level. This variant
arguably offers the best of both worlds, as it also comes with heated leather
seats, 17-inch Dark Silver alloy wheels, automatic climate control,
rain-sensing wipers, adaptive headlights and more.
Prospective owners of the 2020 MX-5 Grand
Touring will also be offered an all-new Gray cloth soft top and Red Nappa
leather upholstery options for the first time.
