Toyota is gearing up for the Chicago Auto
Show by releasing the first teaser image of a new Tacoma. The company is
keeping details under wraps, but the model appears to be an off-road inspired
variant as it features a black front bumper and matching fender flares. We can
also see six-spoke alloy wheels with a black finish.
Little else is known about the truck, but
the Tacoma received a host of updates for 2020. Among the changes were a
revised grille, restyled wheels and an LED bed light. The truck also gained a
new infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa
compatibility.
It remains unclear what this particular
Tacoma is, but the current model is offered with two different engines. The
entry-level unit is a 2.7-liter four-cylinder that develops 159 hp and 244 Nm of torque. However, most customers opt for the
3.5-liter V6 that develops 278 hp and 359 Nm of
torque.
Besides the aforementioned Tacoma, Toyota
hinted the “forecast for the Windy City looks sporty and outdoorsy, with a
touch of nocturnal mischief.” The latter seems to suggest one of the “new
variants” will be a blacked out model similar to the Nightshade versions of the
Camry, Corolla, Sienna and 4Runner. If that’s the case, we can expect a blacked
out grille, black door handles and black wheels – among other things.
As for the sporty model, we’ll find out
soon enough as Toyota’s press conference kicks off on February 6th at 10:30
a.m. CST.
