A prototype of the latest-generation 2021
Mitsubishi Outlander has been spied testing in Europe, mixing concept
car-inspired looks with a new platform. Carscoops spy photographers believe the new
Outlander will be underpinned by the Renault-Nissan Common Module Family (CMF)
platform used by the likes of the Nissan Qashqai and Renault Kadjar. Powertrain
details remain unconfirmed for now.
It’s understood that a 1.5-liter
turbocharged four-cylinder engine may be offered alongside a 2.4-liter
four-cylinder PHEV powertrain. Visually, Mitsubishi has drawn on the Engelberg
Concept from last year’s Geneva Motor Show for inspiration. As such, we can see
through the camouflage of this prototype that it will sport a large Dynamic
Shield front grille as well as thin LED headlights just like the concept. Large
secondary light units will be found beneath the headlights and turn signals,
making for a very striking front fascia.
The overall shape of the 2021 Mitsubishi
Outlander is also clearly very different than the outgoing model and similar to
the Engelberg Concept. This is particularly evident with the similarly-shaped
D-pillars and the sharp taillights. We don’t yet have any photos showcasing the
interior of the new Outlander but if the similarities with the concept continue
into the cabin, the new SUV could be a very nice place to spend time in.

Concept was a four-spoke steering wheel, a fully digital gauge cluster, a large
infotainment screen in the center of the dashboard and a second touch panel in
the transmission tunnel to control the air conditioning and heating systems.
Expect to see the 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander revealed at the Paris Auto Show at
the start of October.
