Arguably, the Alfa Romeo Giulia
Quadrifoglio is already one of the fastest and most exciting cars in the
premium compact segment, but we could be in for a treat, FCA style. The latest
rumor is that the Italian automaker is working on an even more
performance-focused version of its BMW M3 fighter, with MoparInsiders citing
inside FCA sources. We contacted Alfa Romeo, but they declined to comment,
simply stating that, “We don’t comment about the presence of any specific new
model in our events. We are excited to celebrate this year the 110th
anniversary of Alfa Romeo and we are all committed to celebrate it in the best
way.”
According to the report, it’s being
prepared as a limited production edition for the brand’s 110th anniversary that
will be celebrated through a series of special events kicking off at Alfa
Romeo’s home town of Milan, Italy on June 24.
The car could get the historic GTA moniker
enjoying a whopping 620 horsepower, nearly 120 hp more than the stock Giulia
Quadrifoglio that makes do with 503 HP from the Ferrari-derived 2.9-liter
turbocharged V6, which would make it an absolute beast in a straight-line
acceleration and on twisty roads.
Now, GTA stands for Gran Tourismo
Alleggerita, and ‘alleggerita’ is Italian for ‘lightened’. The report claims
that the Giulia GTA will shed 20 kg over the European-specification
model when equipped with the manual gearbox (it’s not clear what transmission
would be offered). It should be interesting to learn how Alfa Romeo has
achieved this number, though it’s likely through the extensive use of carbon
fiber and dropping some unnecessary items.
The hot Giulia is rumored to be offered in
a limited number in Europe, and it’s still unknown if and when it will launch
in other markets. We don’t know about you, but we cannot wait for Alfa Romeo to
uncover the Giulia GTA, as this could very well be the best performance car of
the year.
