Yesterday we brought you the latest spy
shots of the all-new 2020 Hyundai i20 and now we get a clearer picture of the
supermini courtesy of two official design sketches. While these images clearly
show a dramatized design, they allow us to see key styling features of the new
subcompact. The third-generation Hyundai i20 will be the first model in Europe
to implement the automaker’s ‘Sensuous Sportiness’ design language.
We can see that in the shape of the
cascading grille which reminds of the 2020 Sonata and especially the new
Grandeur, in the way the grille is intertwined with the headlights. The unique
lighting signature and side creases are also typical of Hyundai’s latest
styling language.
Compared to the current model, the new i20
will have a sportier, more dynamic look, though probably not as daring as in
these sketches – unless they portray the upcoming Hyundai i20 N hot hatch. The
latter model will likely feature design cues similar to these official teaser
images, including the sculpted bumpers with a splitter at the front and rear
diffuser at the rear, big roof spoiler and massive alloy wheels. The taillights
have a dynamic shape and communicate with each other via a thin illuminated
strip which appears seamlessly connected with the rear glass.
Hyundai does not preview the interior
design just yet but says the dash features horizontal blades that emphasize the
width of the front fascia and neatly disguise the air vents. We also learn that
the new i20 features a 10.25-inch digital cluster that merges with the
10.25-inch main center display for a high-tech look. The all-new i20 will be
revealed at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2020, with Hyundai promising to
release more details in the near future.
