Suzuki has applied a number of updates to
the Ignis city car in Japan for the 2020 model year. The most important is the
addition of the new Hybrid MF grade which features SUV-inspired design elements
including the more rugged-looking bumpers with skid plate-style silver inserts,
plastic cladding around the wheel arches, plastic side skirts and roof rails.
A new body color called Tough Khaki Pearl
Metallic is also introduced in combination with a black roof. Since the Ignis
Hybrid MF is said to target users with active lifestyles, Suzuki has also added
a more resistant, easier to clean luggage floor. Another distinctive feature of
the new trim level is the “leather-like” material for the seat covers combined
with khaki and gunmetal accent colors.
You may have noticed that the 2020 Suzuki
Ignis also features a brand new grille, which is applied to all grades, not
just the new Hybrid MF. The new design consists of four vertical chrome slots
that replace the previous grille’s horizontal bars. We also learn that the rear
bumper is now in the same color as the body. This means the huge black plastic
element that occupied most of the rear bumper’s surface on the current model is
now gone.
All 2020 Suzuki Ignis models also feature
fresh upholstery designs, new instrument panel, as well as body color-matching
accents on the center console and door handles. The base Hybrid MG model gets
an all-black cabin, though.
Other standard features across the board
include the automatic headlights with follow me home function, heated front
seats, passenger-side door pocket (except Hybrid MG), and full safety kit
including the Dual Camera Brake Support (DCBS) system.
Prices for the updated 2020 Suzuki Ignis
start from 1,522,400 yen (US$ 14,000). All models feature the same
91 PS 1.2-liter Dualjet naturally-aspirated four-cylinder gasoline unit
matched to a CVT and a mild-hybrid system. A 4WD system is optional on all
grades. Suzuki made no mention of the European-spec Ignis getting similar upgrades
as the Japanese model but that’s likely to happen later this year.
