The refreshed e-Up! has entered
Volkswagen’s portfolio in the United Kingdom as the brand’s most affordable
electric vehicle. Getting the small zero-emission model requires paying a
recommended retail price of at least £ 19,695, including tax. Compared
to the previous iteration, the 2020 model year features a larger lithium-ion
battery pack, whose capacity has increased from 18.7 to 32.3 kWh.
In the WLTP test cycle, this translates
into a range of 256 km, up from 134 km, yet this varies
depending on the outside temperature and driving style. The battery, which
powers an 83 PS electric motor, supports DC fast charging.
Should you find a 40 kW socket, then you’re looking at a charge time from 0 to
80 percent in one hour. In terms of performance, the 2020 e-Up! accelerates
from 0 to 100 km/h in 11.9 seconds, up half a second from the
previous iteration, and has a maximum speed of 130 km/h.
Identifying it next to the Up! Beats, Up!
R-Line and Up! GTI is not tricky, as the electric variant boasts C-shaped
daytime running lights, blue accents in the grille and across the boot lid, as
well as 15-inch Tezzle wheels. The e-Up! is also the brand’s first EV to bear
the new VW logo.
Standard gear is on par with the rest of
the range and includes the usual connectivity, safety and driver assistance
gear, including a multi-function camera with Lane Assist and smartphone
integration cradle. The range-topping model adds heated front seats, heated
electrically adjustable side mirrors, heated windscreen, climate control,
rain-sensing wipers and cruise control.
