A pair of suspected Chevrolet Corvette Z06
mules have been filmed on the back of a transporter truck in Alburquerque, New
Mexico, perhaps bound for GM’s Arizona proving grounds.
The two prototypes, filmed by Corvette
Blogger, were bathed in thick camouflage. The prototype sitting at the front of
the transporter appears to be equipped with the available rear spoiler of the
‘standard’ C8 Corvette Stingray while the rear fascia of the second prototype
was covered in camouflage, making it hard to determine what variant it could
be.
One possibility is that it, and perhaps
even the front prototype, are both test mules for the forthcoming Z06. However,
a handful of Z06 prototypes recently filmed testing have been bathed in black
camouflage and equipped with body cladding and wheel covers so it’s possible
these two cars wearing less camo are something else entirely. If these aren’t Z06 prototypes, it’s
possible they could be early testers for a future version of the Corvette.
Either that or they are simply left-over pre-production prototypes of the
Corvette Stingray still wearing their original camouflage.
Whatever the case may be, we know the new
C8 Corvette Z06 is in the works and is shaping up to be something very special
indeed. All indications point towards the Z06 featuring a version of the C8.R
race car’s 5.5-liter naturally-aspirated V8 engine complete with a flat-plane
crank. It is rumored the engine will produce about 600 hp in street-legal
guise, a healthy bump over the 490 hp of a base Stingray.
