Volkswagen introduced an updated Taigun
concept at Auto Expo 2014 and now the company is unveiling another concept six
years later. Designed to preview the eventual production model, the latest
concept has little in common with its predecessor.
The front fascia is all-new and features a
slender three bar grille with a prominent Volkswagen logo. It’s surrounded by
sweptback headlights which appear to have chrome accents that visually expand
the grille. Further below, there’s a honeycomb mesh intake, a faux skid plate
and metallic trim that wraps around the fog lights.
While most crossover features plastic body
cladding, the Taigun has gloss black trim and metallic accents on the side
skirts. We can also see fake fender vents, an upward sweeping beltline and
black decals on the rear pillar. Other notable styling features include a
tailgate-mounted spoiler and rear lights which are surrounded by black trim.
Designers also installed a stylish bumper with a rugged looking skid plate.
Volkswagen didn’t say much about the
model, but they confirmed the crossover will measure 4.2 meters long and have a wheelbase that spans 2.65 meters. This makes the
model slightly shorter than Skoda’s Vision IN concept.
Besides confirming dimensions, Volkswagen
said the Taigun will have a turbocharged petrol engine that enables the model
to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 9.9 seconds. The crossover will
also be able to hit a top speed of 183 km/h. Autocar India reports
the Taigun will go sale in India in the second half of 2021 and be heavily
based on the production version of the Vision IN concept. As a result, we can
expect it to ride on the MQB-A0-IN platform which was created specifically for
the subcontinent.
