The Hyundai i20 N has entered a more
advanced testing phase, so the camouflage has started to come off, revealing
more of that sporty body kit. Mind you, even without the thick wraps, it is
still hard to spot most details, but some of the changes are obvious, such as
the big wing attached to the roof, model-specific wheels and red brake
calipers.
The front bumper is bigger featuring air
intakes on the sides and a thin apron, while the side skirts are beefier too.
The deeper rear bumper has a cutout to make room for the dual exhaust pipes.
The front sports seats have become visible as well, but the rest of the
interior continues to be camera shy.
We do expect new trim, with an emphasis on
contrast stitching, N badging and the same tech features that debuted in the
regular subcompact hatchback. These include the new infotainment system and
digital dials, joined by generous equipment levels that include a wireless
charging pad, premium sound system, smartphone integration, ambient lighting and
so on.
Hyundai N’s upcoming small hot hatch is
understood to feature a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine that could push out
roughly 200 HP. Unlike the similarly sized 257 HP, all-wheel drive Toyota GR
Yaris, the i20 N will be front-wheel drive only, expected to be offered
exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission.
It’s been reported that the Korean
company’s N division might present the i20 N in the second half of the year
probably at the 2020 Paris Auto Show, unless the event gets cancelled over the
coronavirus pandemic and Hyundai is forced to postpone the unveiling.
