An intriguing spy image has surfaced
online perhaps showing the front end of an immensely powerful Alfa Romeo Giulia
GTA model. Reports of Alfa Romeo readying a new range-topping Giulia model
surfaced back in January with some claiming such a model could be unveiled as
early as this coming June. While it’s difficult to say for sure if the
camouflaged Alfa Romeo prototype in question is indeed the Giulia GTA model,
the spy shot from CocheSpias definitely has our interest.
It appears as though the prototype is
sporting a slightly more aggressive front bumper than the Giulia Quadrifoglio
while also featuring smoked headlights (or headlights covered in black tape).
The lights also appear a touch sharper than those of the current Giulia models.
If reports are accurate that this prototype is indeed for the upcoming Giulia
GTA, it seems apparent that we will have quite the performer on our hands.
It’s claimed that this new range-topping
Alfa Romeo will feature an upgraded version of the brand’s familiar 2.9-liter
twin-turbocharged V6 engine, uprated to churn out 620 hp – a healthy 115 hp
more than the Giulia Quadrifoglio. No torque figures are known but the
Quadrifoglio offers up 600 Nm so a healthy dose more than that is
to be expected. An eight-speed ZF automatic transmission could be the sole
option, meaning the current six-speed manual won’t be available.
Complementing the power gains enjoyed by
the Giulia GTA could be a number of weight-saving measures that will help strip
away 20 kg of unnecessary weight.
