Mansory has been very active these past
few days, as it usually is every spring around the time of the Geneva Motor
Show. Beyond the Lamborghini ‘Venatus’, Bentley Flying Spur and Continental GT
and Audi RS6 Avant, the German tuner has
already unveiled a special Mercedes-AMG G63 tune earlier this week in the form
of the two-door Star Trooper Pickup. Now, the aftermarket specialist has
dropped another project based on the G63, only this time we’re talking about an
armored conversion.
This is actually Mansory’s first
bulletproof vehicle and it’s built according to the philosophy of “invisible
armor”, which likely means concealing the vehicle’s special protection
capabilities. Applied to the latest Mercedes-AMG G63, the armored conversions
available comply with either the lower VPAM4 standard or the more severe VPAM7
standard. The former offers comprehensive protection for its occupants, but
targets customers who consider light armoring of their vehicle to be sufficient
for their personal safety.
Regardless of the protection standard
chosen by the customer, the armored G63 comes with a complete Mansory custom
package including a body covered in visible carbon fiber, a widebody kit, and
other exterior upgrades. Those include a hood scoop, custom bumpers, bull bar,
LED bar, and emergency lights. As for the interior, it’s as luxurious as you’d
expect and can be tailored to the customer’s most specific requirements.
Naturally, Mansory also offers performance
upgrades to offset the added weight of the armoring package. Customers can opt
to boost the G63’s 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 to 700 PS and 950 Nm of torque or to 800 PS and 1,050 Nm of torque.
Mansory wants a slice of the market for
special protection vehicles and believes the combination of armoring with
high-quality technical and optical refinements is a niche it can successfully
compete in. We believe they may be onto something here.
