Air-cooled Porsche 911s are some of the
most desirable classics and yet not all of them are restored as close as
possible to original condition. But that’s not a bad thing at all. Some people
have very specific ideas in mind when working on air-cooled 911s and that’s
exactly the case with H&R and Burkhard Industries. The two German companies
collaborated on a unique project involving the transformation of a 1986 Porsche
911 Coupe into an off-road machine.
It’s called the Syberia RS and it has been
put together by the H&R Development Center together with Burkhard
Industries. Unfortunately, there aren’t many details available about this
build, other than the fact that it features a custom-made coil-over suspension
from H&R.
According to the suspension specialist,
the upgrade ensures “the maximum of traction and performance in every
conceivable driving situation.” Looking at the photos we can spot many other
upgrades including the big off-road tires mounted on period-correct rims, a
custom exhaust system with two centrally-mounted tailpipes, and a sleek roof
rack.
There are more changes such as the
perforated steel bumpers with tie downs at the back and a hidden winch at the
front, as well as two additional rally lights on the front hood. Stepping
inside one can see that the Syberia RS means business: it features bucket seats
and a roll cage, tall rally-style gearshift lever (hinting at a sequential
transmission), Momo racing steering wheel and plenty of suede trim. All that’s
missing is hundreds of miles of desert sand dunes and a full tank of gasoline
for some proper fun.
