The 2021 Hyundai Elantra will be available
in N Line guise and the South Korean automaker has just previewed the sporty
model through a handful of images and a video showcasing a camouflaged
prototype. While Hyundai is remaining coy on technical specifications and
hasn’t yet announced a launch date, it did reveal that the 2021 Elantra N Line
will benefit from a series of chassis upgrades, a new turbocharged engine, and
some visual alterations.
The prototype pictured sits on a set of
bespoke wheels wrapped in low profile rubber and beneath the camouflage, likely
features tweaked front and rear bumpers to give the sedan a sportier and more
aggressive look. It’s important to note that a full-blown Elantra N model is
tipped to arrive at a later stage.
Hyundai says the Elantra N Line will
feature a turbocharged engine without providing any more details. However, we
suspect it will be the same 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder as the Elantra
GT N Line hatchback (also sold as the i30 N Line), producing an identical 201
hp and available with either a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed
dual-clutch driving the front wheels. As mentioned, some chassis alterations
will be made to improve the car’s handling and create better driving dynamics.
In all likelihood, we should see the
production model by this summer with sales to follow in the fall. The eventual
Hyundai Elantra N will use the company’s familiar 2.0-liter GDi turbocharged
four-cylinder petrol engine from the i30 N and Veloster N with 271 hp and 353 Nm of torque. This model will also come with a smattering of other
performance upgrades, including adaptive suspension and beefed-up brakes.
