The facelifted Mercedes-Benz E-Class is no
longer a secret and that includes the E53 performance model unveiled last
month. However, there’s still one member of the refreshed E-Class family that
remains to be unveiled and that’s the E63 full-blown AMG model. We’ve already
seen shots of undisguised 2021 E63 prototypes but now we get a clearer picture
of what to expect thanks to fresh spy shots. In these images taken at the
Nürburgring, we see an E63 sedan prototype with less disguise than ever before.
The rear end is completely uncovered,
allowing us to spot the new taillights which look identical with those of the
facelifted Mercedes-AMG E53. The difference is the E63 features squared-off
quad taillights instead of round ones, while the boot lid spoiler is more
pronounced than on the E53. We can also see a chrome bar above the tailpipes
and the rear diffuser.
At the front, the 2021 Mercedes-AMG E63
adopts a bigger iteration of the Panamericana grille and a slightly more
aggressive front bumper. As you can see, the front end and a portion of the
front fenders are the only parts of the vehicle that feature camouflage.
Elsewhere on the prototype we can spot a new set of AMG wheels and uprated
brakes. There are no photos of the interior but we don’t expect to see major
changes compared to the E53.
As for the powertrain, Mercedes-AMG will
stick with the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 offered in two states of tune.
Currently, the eight-cylinder unit makes 563 HP in the E63 and 603 HP in the E63 S, we don’t really think a power boost is necessary.
Expect the facelifted 2021 Mercedes-AMG E63 and E63 S sedans and wagons to
debut later this year, probably in autumn.
