Polestar announced U.S. pricing (again) for its first pure electric vehicle, the 2021 Polestar 2. The electric performance fastback starts at US$ 59,900, US$ 3,000 less than originally anticipated but still US$ 2,910 more than a range-topping Tesla Model 3 Performance. The MSRP is below state incentive thresholds in critical markets such as California and New York, also enabling rebates of approximately US$ 2,000 in certain states.

Combined with the federal electric vehicle tax credit, total tax incentives amount to US$ 9,500. “The MSRP is lower than we originally targeted, and will be extended to all of our current reservation holders,” said Gregor Hembrough, Head of Polestar USA. “With an online purchase option, lower pricing, considerable tax incentives, and production already underway, the Polestar 2 is well positioned for a successful entry into the U.S. market,” he added.


Polestar has also announced option pricing for the Polestar 2. The Performance Pack will set buyers back US$ 5,000, the Nappa Leather Interior will cost US$ 4,000, while the 20-inch Alloy Wheels and Metallic Paint Colors will be priced at US$ 1,200 each.

The 2021 Polestar 2 boasts 408 HP and 660 Nm of torque from two electric motors powered by a 78 kWh battery pack that should enable a driving range of 443 km. The EV is the first car in the world to feature a built-in infotainment system powered by Android, offering voice command via the Google Assistant, Google Maps with EV charging support and app downloads via the Google Play Store.


Polestar 2 deliveries to U.S. reservation holders will begin in summer 2020. Customers can buy it online here or visit physical retail showrooms called Polestar Spaces. The first ones will open on the West Coast and New York in late summer 2020, with additional locations to follow.
