The much-loved BMW M2 will be updated with
an all-new generation model in the next couple of years and these renderings
show how the sports car may look. The renderings come courtesy of zer.o.wt on
Instagram and were shared online by BMW Blog. Given that the new M2 is still
quite some time away from being released, it’s impossible to know how it will
look at this early stage.
Nevertheless, these renderings show that
if BMW’s designers are smart, they could make the next M2 look even better than
the outgoing model. Perhaps the first thing you’ll notice about the BMW M2
pictured are the lack of gargantuan ‘coffin’ kidney grilles like the new M3 and
M4 will sport.
We don’t yet know if the new M2 will adopt
smaller and more stylish grilles but are hopeful that it will, especially since
the grilles of the current M235i Gran Coupe are already big enough. In addition
to the enlarged kidney grilles, the rendered car features a set of massive air
intakes with carbon fiber shrouds to really make a statement on the road. A
subtle carbon fiber splitter is also featured, as are the newly-designed
headlights. There are no renderings showcasing the rear of the sports car but
we can spot traditional M-style mirrors and distinctive wheels.
It is claimed that the G87-generation BMW
M2 will retain its rear-wheel drive architecture and likely use the same
twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six of the forthcoming M3 and M4 which is already
used by the X3 M and X4 M. Inevitably, the M2 will be slightly detuned and is
expected to produce around 450 HP.
