In 2010, Jaguar premiered an innovative
supercar concept dubbed the C-X75 and intended on putting it into production
with a 1.6-liter twincharged inline-four engine and four electric motors. The
car was sadly killed off in December 2012 before it could reach production. Had
it been built, it would have served as a rival to the Porsche 918 Spyder,
LaFerrari, and McLaren P1.
Fast forward a decade and designer Aitor
Amigo López has imagined what a new electric hypercar concept could look like
if Jaguar ever decided to explore this space of the car market again. The
vehicle, dubbed the ID-Type, has a design just as ambitious as hypercars like
the Aston Martin Valkyrie and Lotus Evija.
Like the Valkyrie, the cabin of the
ID-Type almost looks like it is suspended between the four wheels because of
the huge air tunnels between the front wheels and the bodywork as well as the
tunnels between the rear wheels. Evidently, aerodynamics have played a key role
in the design of the concept.
The shape of the front is also of
particular note as there is a prominent faux grille, small headlights, and a
pronounced splitter. The rear is also rather radical thanks to a huge diffuser,
thin LED taillights, and exposed wheels.
Like other hypercars, the vehicle would be
based around a carbon fiber chassis and sport a very driver-focused interior
with thin seats mounted directly to the monocoque. The cabin is so low that
drivers could comfortably see the top of the front wheels, allowing them to
perfectly place the car through corners. The designer has imagined the vehicle
as being all-electric and featuring solid-state batteries.
