Mahindra has unveiled a lot of electric
vehicle concepts at the 2020 Auto Expo and the eKUV100 was also launched.
Mahindra Atom EV got our attention thanks to its compact and upright stance. In
practical life, it is a 2 door 3 seater electric vehicle which mainly targets
at cleaner shared mobility.
Mahindra Atom can seat 3 people inside
comfortably and the cabin does not feel claustrophobic thanks to the big
windows. They are manually operated and only the front two windows are operational.
The driver door is of normal size but the second door has been placed in the
middle to get excess in the rear easily.
The rear driver side window can’t be
opened. Hence it’s a relief that the Atom gets 3-speed air conditioning. To
keep your devices charged, Mahindra has plonked 3 12v charging ports, 2 at the
front and 1 at the rear along with a magazine holder. A rear seat entertainment
system is also been offered in the Atom EV.
Coming to the specifications, Mahindra
Atom EV offers a range of 90 kilometres on a single charge and the battery can
be juiced up in 4 hours. The top speed is rated at 50km/h. Mahindra is not
offering fast charging with the Atom to keep costs in check. It rides on low
rolling resistance 135/70 R12 Eco-drive tyres which look skinny but are
effective for EVs. The is no boot at the back but as there is one seat at the
front, free space has been left to carry small luggage. Special storage space
and a mobile holder has also been offered for added convenience.
We expect Mahindra to price the Atom EV
around the Rs 3 lakh mark. The battery packs are more expensive when compared
to normal IC engines. It has been developed to promote cleaner and greener
shared mobility.
