Porschephiles have been waiting for a Cayman GT4 RS for years now and according to Car and Driver, the car is just around the corner and could produce as much as 500 hp. Porsche has been spied testing the 718 Cayman GT4 RS on a handful of occasions since last year and it looks set to have all the ingredients to make sports car fans very, very happy.

First, there’s the engine. Like the existing 718 Cayman GT4, the RS-badged variant will use a 4.0-liter naturally-aspirated six-cylinder. This engine currently pumps out 414 hp but will be modified and upgraded for use in the GT4 RS. According to the publication, it could have 500 hp, putting it within striking distance of the 992-generation Porsche 911 GT3 that is tipped to pump out upwards of 520 hp.

A handful of other changes are also to be expected. For example, the Cayman GT4 RS will likely be a fair bit lighter than the existing model and also feature upgraded brakes and suspension components. As for transmissions, well that remains up in the air.

We know that the current Cayman GT4 is sold exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission but it is reported that a PDK will become available later this year. If Porsche adopts a similar philosophy as it has with the 911 GT3 RS, it’s entirely possible that a PDK will be the only available option for the Cayman GT4 RS.
