Renault will finally step into the
electric SUV segment with their very own proposal that’s expected to be
unveiled before the end of 2020. Following hot on the heels of the latest Zoe,
as well as the City K-ZE (pictured here) that will arrive in Europe rebadged as
a Dacia, this as of yet unnamed model is said to be based on the new CMF-EV
platform that debuted in the Morphoz Concept, at the 2020 Geneva Motor Show,
reports LArgus.
Known internally as the BCB, it’s believed
to be slightly bigger than the electric supermini, slotting just under the new
Captur in terms of size. The new model is expected to offer different power
levels and battery capacities, with the report claiming that the range-topper
will be able to travel for 550-600 km on a single charge.
The French publication did not disclose
its sources, so we’re a bit skeptical especially when it comes to the
‘targeted’ range, as it’s almost impossible to achieve such a long range in
this segment with the current technology, while also keeping the weight and
price in check.
The story was published before the 2020
Paris Auto Show was cancelled (at least in the form we all expected), and so it
was claimed that the EV would have be presented at the event taking place
between September 29 and October 11.
Production is believed to commence at the
Renault Douai factory, in Northern France, which is where the Espace, Scenic
and Talisman are put together. The first units are said to be scheduled to
arrive at dealers next spring. On a related note, the report claims that
Renault will launch a bigger electric SUV in 2022, based on the same dedicated
architecture, which should be similar in size to the Kadjar and is codenamed
the HCC.
