The
Volkswagen Viloran business minivan has been fully revealed in China. Built by
the SAIC Volkswagen joint venture, the Viloran is a big posh people-carrier
that will compete with the likes of the Buick GL8 and Lexus LM, among other
models.
The Viloran is the biggest MQB-underpinned model, measuring 5,346 mm in length, 1,976 mm in width, and 1781 mm in
height. It has a generous wheelbase of 3,180 mm, which allows it to accommodate seven passengers in comfort –
especially those sitting on the second-row captain’s chairs.
The dashboard looks quite similar to the
VW Teramont SUV (China’s Atlas), though the Viloran features a touch-sensitive
climate control panel as well as different air vents, steering wheel and
gearshift lever. The business minivan features leather upholstery, heating,
ventilation and massage for all seats, with the list of available features also
including the Virtual Cockpit, latest-generation multimedia system, and a
panoramic roof.
Driver assist tech includes an adaptive
cruise control system, traffic jam assistant, auto-braking systems, lane
keeping alert and automatic parking.
Also sourced from the VW Teramont is one
of the engines, a 2.0-liter TSI EA888 turbocharged four-cylinder petrol unit
rated at 220 PS and 350 Nm of torque. There’s also a 2.0
TSI with 186 PS and 320 Nm of torque. The only
transmission on offer for both engines is a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch
automatic driving the front wheels. There’s no AWD model available.
SAIC VW has already started taking
pre-orders for the Viloran in China ahead of the market launch scheduled for
May. Pre-sale pricing starts from 350,000 yuan (US$ 49,500) for the base model.
