Acura just dropped the first official
teaser of the all-new 2021 TLX sports sedan, which also marks the return of the
Type S high-performance version after a ten year hiatus. The new 2021 Acura TLX
will celebrate its digital debut next Thursday, May 28, at acura.com/2021-TLX.
The Japanese carmaker is letting us take a peek at the rear end of the new TLX,
which features pretty much the same styling with the stunning Type S concept,
shown at the 2020 Chicago Auto Show.
The first official teaser of the new Acura
TLX reveals a pair of sleek LED taillights that complement the model’s muscular
hips, a set of large quad exhaust tips, and a prominent rear diffuser. That
also serves as an indirect confirmation of Acura’s loyalty to the concept’s
design.
The short video also shows that this is
the range-topping Type S variant of the 2021 TLX, with Acura adding that this
will be the first model to use the brand’s dedicated twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6
engine. Previous reports suggested that this engine was in development
specifically for use in future Type S models and apparently were 100 percent
true.
As for the power, the new V6 is expected
to offer more power than the current 290 HP 3.5-liter V6. Acura’s 2021 TLX Type
S will also employ the brand’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system,
as noticed from the small badge on the trunk lid. Base variants of the new TLX
will reportedly use the turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit from the Honda
Accord, paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Stay tuned for the big digital reveal of
the 2021 Acura TLX on May 28, at 1:00 pm EST.
