The long-awaited 2020 Alpina XB7 is set to
premiere on May 19 as the closest thing to a BMW X7 M we’re going to get.
Alpina has been working on upgrading the X7 since last year and the company’s
website was recently updated to include a countdown clock for May 19, when
details about the XB7 will be released. The official BMW Canada page on
Facebook has confirmed the news, sharing details about a live event where the
XB7 will premiere.
Whereas the current range-topping BMW X7,
the M50i xDrive, pumps out a respectable 523 hp and 750 Nm of torque, the Alpina XB7 is expected to receive the same 4.4-liter twin-turbo
V8 as the current B7.
This means it should offer an identical
600 hp and 800 Nm of torque. While we won’t receive
performance details until next week, a 0-100 km/h time of around 4
seconds and a top speed exceeding 250 km/h are to be expected.
It’s not just engine upgrades that the XB7
will benefit from. Alpina’s engineers will also work their magic on the SUV’s
suspension setup to ensure it handles exceptionally well for a vehicle of its
size while also being comfortable.
Spy shots have indicated a handful of
visual alterations will be made. For example, there will be bespoke front and
rear bumpers, new quad tailpipes, a custom hood, and distinctive Alpina wheels.
The interior will also be tweaked with new upholstery options including
contrast piping, stitching and embossing.
