Just a few months after being unveiled in
prototype guise, two production-ready versions of the new Subaru Levorg have
been spied testing in Japan. The first and most revealing of the two test cars
was spied without any camouflage in Tomioka City, Gunma Prefecture in Subaru’s
home country. The car is painted silver and looks virtually identical to the
Levorg STI Prototype that premiered at January’s Tokyo Auto Salon.
The front of the test mule sports the same
angular grille as the show car while also featuring similarly sharp headlights.
Also visible is a large hood scoop and aggressive air intakes. The only visible
alteration we can see is that while the prototype from the Tokyo Auto Salon
sported fog lights just below small horizontal LED daytime running lights, this
silver car lacks those DRLs but retains the fog lights.
A black prototype was spied elsewhere in
Gunma Prefecture last month and looks identical to the silver car. We don’t
have any images showing the rear fascias of these two cars but considering how
similar the front end is to the show car, it’s safe to assume that hardly any
changes will be made to the rear.
Creative311 claims the new Subaru Levorg
will be revealed in mid- or late-June before the order books open in early
July. It is understood that entry-level models will come outfitted with a
1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces roughly 197 hp and 294 Nm of torque. An STI-badged variant is expected to feature a
larger 2.4-liter unit that will likely offer up in excess of 300 hp.
