Lanzante, the British company responsible
for building a number of special McLaren models in recent years, has just
revealed its latest creation. Dubbed the McLaren P1 GTR-18, it is the ultimate
upgrade package conceived for the P1 GTR. Lanzante made headlines a few years
ago when it started converting McLaren’s track-only P1 GTR into a road-legal
monster. The McLaren P1 GTR-18 from Lanzante takes things to another level
while still remaining street legal.
The first thing you’ll notice is that the
car sports a ‘Long Tail’ body style in a tribute to the original McLaren F1 GTR
‘Long Tail’. As part of this new package, the car receives an enlarged front
splitter and a new rear wing.
This particular example, one of just six
P1 GTR models that will be converted into a GTR-18, has a livery inspired by
the Gulf Team Davidoff No.28R F1 GTR Long Tail. The paint has been matched to
the exact color code of the racer and even the exposed carbon fiber parts have
a special hue to them.
The remaining five examples being produced
will each have a unique livery mimicking the one worn by a Lanzante-developed
F1 race car. Each of the six P1 GTR-18s will include a custom headset finished
in the same paint scheme as the car, a set of unique dust bags, and tinted
carbon fiber keys.
It is unclear if Lanzante has fettled with
the P1 GTR’s 3.8-liter twin-turbo hybrid powertrain, but even if it hasn’t, the
GTR-18 will still have at least 986 hp on tap. Pricing details haven’t been
announced.
