The 2021 Ford F-150 will debut this week and the company has released the first teaser image of the redesigned
pickup truck. While the picture isn’t very revealing, it provides another look
at the model’s redesigned headlights which feature C-shaped LED daytime running
lights that continue all the way down into the front bumper.
Of course, this shouldn’t be too
surprising as truck’s redesigned front fascia has already been revealed in spy
photos. They also showed the model will have a slimmer grille with some
Mercedes-like chrome accents. The truck will also have a bulging hood and
evolutionary bodywork. There will also be new taillights and a revised
tailgate.
The updated styling will continue the
cabin as the F-150 will have digital instrument cluster and a larger
infotainment system. While nothing is official, Ford has previously said their
SYNC 4 infotainment system will be offered with 8-, 12- and 15.5-inch displays.
Besides the high-tech goodies, drivers will find higher quality materials and
an improved design. There will also be an evolutionary steering wheel and new
switchgear including climate controls with digital displays.
A new report from Reuters also mentions a
“lay-flat passenger seat like those seen in first-class cabins on some planes.”
The publication goes on to describe it as a “sleeper-seat” and one source told
them “You can basically live in the truck.” Engine options are largely expected
to carryover and choices could include a 3.3-liter V6 with 290 hp as well as a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 with 325 hp. There
could also be a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 with 375 hp, a
5.0-liter V8 with 395 hp and a 3.0-liter V6 diesel with at
least 250 hp.
Of course, the big news is that the F-150
is going green. There will be a new hybrid variant as well as a fully electric
model which will arrive within the next two years. Regardless of what’s under
the hood, Ford confirmed the 2021 F-150 will be launched this fall.
