Available exclusively in Japan, the Honda
Freed is a small minivan with seating for six or seven that shares
underpinnings with the Fit/Jazz subcompact hatch and the Vezel/HR-V crossover. Facelifted
last year, the second-generation Honda Freed has now received further updates
in the form of the Modulo X sporty-flavored trim level. Equipped with custom
parts developed in-house, the Honda Freed Modulo X brings a more aggressive
appearance you would not expect to find on a subcompact MPV.
The body kit closely follows the design featured
on the Freed Modulo X Concept that debuted at the Tokyo Auto Salon in December
2019. At the front, the MPV sports a newly-designed bumper with big gloss black
trim pieces housing the LED fog lights on each side and a spoiler finished in
glossy black at the bottom. The Freed Modulo X also gets an exclusive grille
with three aero fins and a larger chrome ornament compared to lesser models and
its predecessor.
The body kit features sharper side skirts,
a roof spoiler and a sporty rear bumper integrating a glossy black diffuser
element and vertical reflectors carved into the bumper. The Modulo X treatment
also consists of dedicated 15-inch aluminum wheels, Crystal Black / Pearl
mirror caps, and a sportier suspension.
Inside, the Honda Freed Modulo X offers a
sporty ambience as well thanks to the seats combining suede and leather, Modulo
X badging embroidered into the front seat backs, and steering wheel wrapped in
perforated leather in the areas that the hands usually make contact with.
Branded floor mats, a 9-inch infotainment screen with navigation, and a
built-in dashcam are also part of the package.
Customers can have the Freed Modulo X with
two powertrains: a 129 PS 1.5-liter four-cylinder mated to a CVT or a
1.5-liter hybrid hooked to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The hybrid
system combines a 110 PS 1.5-liter engine with a 22 kW (30 PS)
electric motor and a small battery. Prices start from 2,950,200 yen (US$ 27,460)
for the gasoline model and 3,256,000 yen (US$ 30,310) for the hybrid.
