Land Rover has a wide range of SUVs, but the concept you’re looking at, dubbed the Land Rover Colossus, shows what the ultimate multipurpose premium SUV from the British car manufacturer could look like. The study is the work of industrial designer Nicolas Araya and was created during his ‘Car Design Training’ course at Advanced Design – Innovation Studio (ADIStudio) in Argentina.

The aim of the Land Rover Colossus is to maximize versatility and practicality, combining the best aspects of a premium SUV with the functionality of a pickup truck. The key standout feature of the Colossus is its utilization of a sliding C-pillar that, when slid back, turns the Colossus into a 5- or 7-seat SUV, but when slid all the way forward, turns the rear section of the cabin into a pickup truck bed.

While the idea of a vehicle that can double as an SUV and a pickup truck is quite a foreign one, the Colossus does actually look like a vehicle that Land Rover itself could produce. At the front, for example, it has a clear resemblance to existing Land Rover models with a familiar front grille and thin LED headlights.

When in its SUV form, the Colossus offers three-rows of seats but should drivers want some added cargo space, the rear seats can be folded away and the C-pillar section slid forward. If an even larger item needs to be stored in the bed, like a motorcycle, for example, there’s a section of the bed that can also be extended. The tailgate can also be lowered to provide more cargo space.

Advanced Design – Innovation Studio is based out of Argentina and was established by Lucas Colombo Carbone after he worked at Mercedes-Benz for 12 years. The company provides design services in the automotive, naval and aviation sectors, as well as product design more broadly.
