Buick China has dropped the first interior
photos of the all-new 2021 Envision S, which is the Chinese equivalent of North
America’s 2021 Envision. We get to see the cabin both in regular and Avenir
trims, with the latter bringing a more upscale appearance courtesy of more
luxurious materials and a two-tone dashboard look. The driver-oriented center
console and two-tier horizontal design give the dash a sporty look, while the
large infotainment screen is neatly integrated and sits close to a digital
instrument cluster.
China is by far Buick’s largest market
worldwide so it’s little wonder that the brand’s newest models typically launch
in the Asian country first. The second-generation 2021 Buick Envision SUV made
an exception, however, as it first broke cover in the United States on May 29.
Now it’s time to see the Chinese-spec model, which is called the Envision S.
The ’S’ in the name is there simply to
differentiate it from the previous-generation Envision, which will remain
available in China after getting a facelift in late 2019. Built on GM’s global
E2 SUV architecture that also underpins the Cadillac XT4, the Buick Envision S
looks almost identical to the U.S. model, save for the black trim on the front
grilles, window surrounds, and at the bottom of the doors.
The model shown in the photo also rides on
black alloy wheels in a different design. In addition to the Envision S, Buick
has also released the first photo of the Envision S Avenir range-topping grade.
Marking the first time the upscale Avenir trim level is offered on the
Envision, the model features chrome trim where the Envision S has black trim,
as well as a unique signature mesh grille and dedicated alloy wheels. Furthermore,
the Envision S Avenir will offer exclusive exterior colors and some unique
interior trim and materials.
Buick says the Envision S and Envision S
Avenir will feature the company’s latest electrical architecture, which could
mean mild-hybrid powertrains. The GM brand does not talk specifics but mentions
“new-generation propulsion and refined chassis systems.”Most likely, the engine
will be the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline unit (LSY) rated at
237 HP and 350 Nm of torque. It should be paired to a
nine-speed automatic transmission and standard front-wheel drive, with AWD
available as an option.
The premium midsize SUV will also be
available with “an array of advanced connectivity technologies and driver
assist systems to optimize safe and intelligent driving.” Buick will release
additional information about the all-new Envision S closer to its launch in
China.
