MioPreliminary specification and pricing
details for the 2021 Buick Envision have surfaced online a few months before
the crossover’s U.S. launch. It is understood that four trim levels will be
offered for the new Envision, with the range kicking off with the base variant
and going upwards to the Preferred, Essence, and Avenir.
According to GM Authority, all Envision
models will come standard with front-wheel drive, but the Preferred, Essence,
and Avenir will also be available with all-wheel drive. The initial launch will
apparently focus on the top three trim levels and not the entry-level one.
Pricing details for the crossover remain unconfirmed. With that being said, it
is rumored that it could kick-off at the US$ 34,000 mark. If that figure proves
accurate, it will undercut the 2021 Acura RDX by roughly US$ 4,000, while also
undercutting European rivals like the BMW X3.
Underpinning the new Envision is GM’s E2
platform that is largely the same as the one used in the first-generation
Cadillac XT4. A 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 230 hp and 350 Nm is expected to be the sole powertrain on offer and will be coupled to
GM’s nine-speed automatic transmission.
Lots of safety systems will come as
standard, including Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking, Lane
Keep Assist, Forward Collision Alert, Rear Park Assist, and HD Rear Vision
Camera. GM will build the Envision at its Jinqiao plant in Shanghai, China for
the domestic market as well as to export into North America, where it should
land on dealership lots at the start of 2021.
