The 2020 Corvette C8 was one of the most
highly anticipated vehicles in years, but the model has lived a tortured
existence as it was delayed by a UAW strike and the coronavirus pandemic. The
delays mean everyone that ordered a 2020 Corvette won’t get one, but that’s not
much of a problem as a 2021 model is coming soon.
Teased on social media, the 2021 Corvette
will get a revised color palette that apparently includes a new Gulf livery. We
can also see a black model with red and yellow stripes as well as a white model
with blue stripes.
Chevrolet is staying tight-lipped, but
teased “It’s time to earn some new racing stripes.” They also said they’re
adding to the Corvette’s legacy with 2021 model. While a lot of questions
remain, we already know a handful of details about the 2021 Corvette. First and
foremost, the model will continue to start at US$ 59,995 as Corvette chief
engineer Tadge Juechter has previously said the company wants “to do the right
thing by our customers.” Officials have also revealed the Magnetic Ride Control
system will become a standalone option and noted Silver Flare Metallic will
replace Blade Silver. Likewise, Long Beach Red will give way to Red Mist Tint
Coat Metallic.
The Stingray’s 6.2-liter V8 engine is
slated to carryover and continue to produce 490 hp and 630 Nm of torque. Customers will also be able to opt for the Z51
Performance Package which boosts the engine’s output to 495 hp and 637 Nm of torque. Of course, the big news for 2021 will be
the introduction of the Corvette Z06. Chevrolet hasn’t said much about the
model, but it’s slated to use a 5.5-liter flat-plane crank V8 engine that could
produce more than 600 hp.
