Mercedes-Benz is a strong believer in the
future of MPVs and passenger vans, which is why they have constantly renewed
the range over the years and introduced the EQV premium EV. Now, their bet is
on the T-Class, a model that will be positioned beneath the mid-size V-Class
when it launches in the first half of 2022. The compact passenger van will be
aimed at families and ride sharing services, and will be instantly recognizable
as a member of the Mercedes-Benz lineup.
Developed in partnership with the
Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance, the T-Class promises “an attractive
price-value ratio”, as well as a roomy cockpit that won’t come at the expense
of comfort. Ingress and egress will be facilitated by the rear wide-opening
sliding doors on both sides of the vehicle.
In addition to the regular internal
combustion engines, the T-Class will also launch with a fully-electric
powertrain, which should widen its appeal with customers in search of a
zero-emission minivan, while also keeping it viable for years to come.
On a related note, the automaker has
announced that the Citan will be renewed as well, and while they did not
provide an official launch date for the small panel van, which is currently a
rebadged version of the Renault Kangoo, they did say that it too will be made
together with the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance.
