The Cupra brand’s first standalone model,
the Formentor SUV coupe, will arrive in European dealerships this autumn.
Customers who want to be among the first to drive Cupra’s flagship model will
be able to place advance orders from July. Production of the Formentor, named
after the landmark cape on the island of Mallorca, will kick off this summer on
line 2 at the Martorell plant near Barcelona.
At launch, the Cupra Formentor will be
available with a 2.0-liter TSI turbocharged four-cylinder petrol unit rated at
310 PS and 400 Nm of torque, and it will come with a
seven-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission and 4Drive AWD system as
standard.
From 2021, the Formentor will also offer a
plug-in hybrid powertrain sourced from the new Cupra Leon, combining a 150 PS 1.4-liter TSI petrol engine with a 115 PS electric motor and
a 13 kWh lithium-ion battery pack.
Badged Formentor eHybrid, the more
eco-friendly model will offer a total of 245 PS and 400 Nm of torque, lower fuel consumption than the 2.0 TSI model, and an all-electric
range of 50 km . The Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) system will be
standard on the Formentor, offering drivers the choice of Comfort, Sport, Cupra
and Individual drive modes.
The Formentor also integrates the latest
connectivity and safety technology, including a new infotainment system with a
12-inch screen and driver aids like Predictive Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind
Spot Detection, and Exit Assist.
