Mazda USA has announced the 2021 CX-9
flagship SUV is arriving at dealerships later this month with infotainment and
upholstery upgrades, as well as a new Carbon Edition model. Chief among the
updates is a new standard 10.25-inch center display hooked to the
latest-generation Mazda Connect infotainment system. The new interface comes
with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and adds Mazda Connected
Services capabilities.
Those include a three-year trial to access
the ability to monitor and control the state of the CX-9 remotely using the
MyMazda app and in-car Wi-Fi hotspot with three-months or 2GB trial. The three-row
SUV also gains new seat patterning for the 2021 model year, while the new
Carbon Edition model brings bolder styling inside and out.
The base 2021 Mazda CX-9 Sport has a
starting MSRP of US$ 33,960, excluding the US$ 1,100 destination and handling charge.
This represents an increase of just US$ 70 over the equivalent 2020 CX-9. Based on
the CX-9 Touring with Touring Premium Package, the 2021 CX-9 Carbon Edition
starts from US$ 41,080. It brings exclusive styling with Polymetal Gray exterior
paint, gloss black door mirrors and new designs for the gloss black front
grille and 20-inch Black Metallic alloy wheels.
Inside, the model features red leather
seats and black interior trimming on the dash, door panels and handle bezels.
It comes standard with second-row captain’s chairs with armrest and center pass
through, hands-free power liftgate, ventilated front seats, heated second-row
seats, heated steering wheel, seven-inch TFT reconfigurable digital gauge
display, and much more.
Regardless of the trim level, the 2021
CX-9 features a Skyactiv-G 2.5 Turbo engine delivering 250 HP and 433 Nm of torque on premium (93 octane) gasoline. On regular (87 octane)
gasoline, the ratings drop to 227 HP and 420 Nm of torque. A
six-speed Skyactiv-Drive automatic transmission with G-Vectoring Control Plus
comes standard, while the predictive i-Activ AWD system with off-road traction
assist is standard in CX-9 Signature and available on all other trim levels.
The i-Activsense safety suite comes
standard and includes Mazda Radar Cruise Control with stop and go function,
Advanced Smart City Brake Support with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure
Warning with Lane-Keep Assist, and Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear
Cross-Traffic Alert.
