Porsche has applied a number of upgrades
to the 2021 Taycan, which will launch in Europe from mid-September and will
become available to order in the U.S. in Q4, with deliveries starting next
year. The range-topping Taycan Turbo S is now 0.2 seconds quicker from 0-200 km/h, which takes 9.6 seconds with Launch Control enabled. The
quarter-mile time has also dropped by one tenth of a second, to 10.7 seconds.
The color head-up display is now available for the electric sedan, projecting
relevant information into the driver’s field of vision, with pre-sets including
the navigation display, power meter and user-defined view.
Vehicles equipped with the adaptive air
suspension feature the new Smartlift function, which can be programmed so that
it raises the body automatically on driveways or at speed bumps. The system can
also adjust the height when driving on highways, thus obtaining the best mix
between ride comfort and efficiency.
Owners can spec more safety systems via
the over-the-air upgrades thanks to Function on Demand. These include the
Active Lane Keep Assist and Porsche InnoDrive, available for cars with te
Adaptive Cruise Control, for € 19.50 (US$ 23) per month or € 808.10 (US$ 963), in
Germany, as individual options. The Porsche Intelligent Range Manager costs
€ 10.72 (US$ 13) per month, or € 398.69 (US$ 475) to purchase, and the Power Steering
Plus is € 320.71 (US$ 382).Simplifying the charging at public stations, the Plug
& Charge system, which will be available at many Electrify America charging
points starting next year, is offered separately from the new Function on
Demand and takes care of the authentication and handles the payments on its
own.
Also new for the 2021MY is the Battery
Preservation technology, which helps extend the Taycan’s battery service life
and reduces power loss while charging by regulating the charging capacity at
suitable stations to around 200 kW. This feature can be accessed via the
central display, but if drivers do not want to use it, then a charging capacity
of up to 270 kW remains standard.
Porsche has also revised the PCM system,
by introducing the SiriusXM 360L and making Apple podcasts selectable as an
individual media source. Furthermore, the locations of charging stations can be
prioritized in the charging destination list.
Finally, seven new exterior colors have
been added to the palette: Frozenberry Metallic, Mahogany Metallic, Cherry
Metallic, Chalk, Coffee Beige Metallic, Neptune Blue and Ice Grey Metallic.
They are joined by five new interior options and the optional Carbon Sport
Design Package.
