Rolls-Royce has confirmed that the next-generation Ghost will have its digital world debut on September 1 at 1 p.m. BST (8 a.m. EST). The second-generation of the Ghost luxury sedan adopts a minimalist ‘Post Opulent’ design philosophy. Obviously, that does not mean the 2021 Ghost will fly under the radar, quite the contrary. One of its highlights will be the Illuminated Fascia, a Bespoke innovation created exclusively for the new Ghost.

Developed over two years and more than 10,000 collective hours, the illuminated nameplate and star cluster brings an ethereal glowing Ghost nameplate surrounded by more than 850 stars into the interior suite of new Ghost.

Placed on the passenger side of the dashboard, the constellation and wordmark are completely invisible when the car is not in operation. The first Bespoke feature for 2021 Ghost, the Illuminated Fascia features 152 LEDs mounted above and beneath the fascia, color matched to the cabin’s clock and instrument dial lighting.

A 2 mm thick light guide featuring more than 90,000 laser-etched dots across the surface ensures that the Ghost graphic is lit evenly. It also creates a twinkling effect as the eyes move across the fascia, echoing the subtle twinkle of the Starlight Headliner. Rolls-Royce went out of its way to ensure that the Illuminated Fascia was completely invisible while not operational. To that end, it used three layers of composite materials, including a Piano Black substrate, a layer of dark tinted lacquer, and a layer of subtly tinted lacquer.
