The Ferrari 812 Superfast premiered three and a half years ago as the replacement of the F12, and now it appears that the Maranello firm is prepping a more track-focused version of the supercar. A prototype was spied lapping the Fiorano circuit in June, and more recently, another tester was spotted on the road, looking almost identical to the Superfast, save for a few changes. Those include the redesigned front bumper with new air intakes and more aggressive rear diffuser.

Is it possible that this is the Prancing Horse’s hardcore variant of the 812? It sure seems so, and it could be dubbed either the GTO or the VS, with the latter standing for Versione Speciale – Italian for Special Version.

The spiritual successor to the 599 GTO and F12tdf is expected with improved aerodynamics, weight savings made possible by the adoption of more carbon fiber parts, and a boost in power over the 812 Superfast that could see it unleash between 810 and 850 horsepower.

This would give it a significant advantage over the ‘regular’ model, whose 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 engine steams out 789 HP at 8,500 rpm (max engine speed is 8,900 rpm) and 718 Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm. The 812 Superfast can hit 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds from a standstill and has a maximum speed of 340 km/h. In all likelihood, the upcoming range-topper of the 812 Superfast series should shave one or two tenths of a second from the sprint time, while the top speed will perhaps exceed 340 km/h.
