Almost a year after Human Horizon’s new
HiPhi auto brand previewed the 1 concept car, the first photos of the
production-ready example that will be named HiPhi X have hit the web. Set to be
manufactured in Yancheng in China’s Jiangsu Province, the HiPhi X is a large
and low-slung crossover/SUV with a similar overall shape to the failed Faraday
Future FF91.
One of the most intriguing parts of the
HiPhi X’s design are the rear doors. Known as “wing doors,” they are a combination
of suicide doors and gullwing doors and are certainly unique, although we’re
unconvinced they have any advantage over traditional doors or the falcon wing
doors of the Tesla Model X.
No interior photos have been released but
in these cropped images, we can see there will be touch controls for the air
conditioning, seat adjustments, seat heating, and seat cooling on the rear
doors. The HiPhi X also sports six seats spread across three rows in a 2+2+2
layout. The first and second rows of
seats come with ventilation, heating, and massage functions. Also, rather than
the slimline wing cameras of the concept, the production model has traditional
mirrors.
Human Horizon hasn’t announce power
figures yet, but said the X will be offered in rear-wheel drive and all-wheel
drive derivatives, with the most potent model achieving a 0-100 km/h time of 3.9 seconds. The battery will be available in several options, with the
larger 96 kWh unit providing a range of at least 610 km on the NEDC
cycle.
The Chinese company added that it has
partnered with Microsoft to develop an artificial intelligence system for the
vehicle. It will also offer Level 3 semi-autonomous driving functions and
support over-the-air updates. The electric crossover will hit the Chinese
market in the first half of 2021.
