Lucid is preparing to introduce the Air on
September 9th, and it appears the company is preparing a surprise in the form
of an electric crossover. While details are limited, Roadshow noticed a tweet
by Coast Redwoods who apparently stumbled onto a photo shoot in California.
While it was blocked off by police, they managed to snap pictures of the Air
and the mysterious crossover.
The crossover features a
rakish windscreen and a contrasting roof that is inspired by the Air. We can
also see streamlined bodywork, plastic fender flares and what appears to be
flush-mounted door handles. Other highlights include a panoramic glass roof and
a full-width rear light bar. One picture shows the crossover next to the Air
and it’s significantly larger than the electric sedan. Given its size and
design, the model appears to be a seven or eight seater.
While a lot of questions remain, Roadshow
noted Lucid CEO Peter Rawlinson recently confirmed the company is working on a
crossover and already has a running prototype. That’s likely the model seen
here and Rawlinson said it would be based on the same platform that underpins
the sedan.
There’s no word on specifications at this
point, but the Air appears to be a promising electric vehicle as the company
recently announced it will have an EPA-estimated range of 832 km.
That’s unheard of and even the Tesla Model S tops out at 647 km. The
company has been keeping additional information under wraps, but promised the
car’s final design as well as “new details about production specifications,
available configurations, and pricing information” will be shared during its
debut next month. It’s also possible we could learn more about the crossover.
