The new Bentley Flying Spur doesn’t lack
in style yet the automaker has just launched a new ‘Styling Specification’ for
what is now the brand’s flagship saloon. With the Mulsanne’s demise, Bentley is
left with only one saloon in its lineup, so it’s not surprising that the number
of Flying Spur variants is on the rise. The Styling Specification gives the
sedan a more sporting aesthetic courtesy of high-gloss carbon fiber exterior
parts.
Those include the front bumper splitter,
side skirts with metallic Bentley badges, rear diffuser, and boot lid spoiler.
The vehicle featured in the photos also appears to have the Blackline
Specification which replaces the exterior chrome with black trim.
The carbon fiber weave is a 2×2 twill
pattern, woven in the same direction for all components and laid-up in multiple
layers, each oriented for optimum strength and durability as well as minimal
weight. The attention to detail is even more obvious on the side skirts which include
a three-dimensional electro-formed Bentley badge developed specially for the
Styling Specification.
The Styling Specification is not just
about the styling as the components are also designed to complement the Flying
Spur’s aerodynamic performance. The aero parts are assessed and refined using
computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software for aerodynamic performance,
including front and rear lift and overall drag.
Customers can order the Styling
Specification through Bentley’s network of retailers for a new car or retrofit
it at a later date to existing cars.
