The Wuling Hong Guang X concept has been
officially unveiled at the Chengdu Motor Show and it might just be one of the
best-looking vehicles to come out of China for many years. The Hong Guang X is
the work of the SAIC, General Motors, and Wuling Motors joint venture which has
primarily produced minivans and small cars. However, Wuling has plans to become
a global brand and has reinvigorated their line of vehicles with the release of
this rugged-looking concept that is a very close preview of what the production
model will look like.
Wuling’s striking concept uses a ‘wing
dynamic aesthetics’ design language and has an extremely muscular shape. At the
front, the concept rocks a gloss black grille, an LED light bar and X-shaped
daytime running lights, while the lower portion of the front fascia includes a
black bumper.
The vehicle’s eye-catching shape is
particularly evident when it is viewed from the side. There are few, if any,
curves across the concept’s exterior that’s dominated by straight lines and
angular edges instead, as well as a set of squared black fender flares, black
window surrounds, silver A-pillars, a red body-colored C-pillar, and a set of
black wheels. Rounding out the design is an upright rear-end with a spoiler
stretching off the roof, an LED light bar, and taillights with the same
X-shaped signature as the headlights.
We don’t have any images available of the
Hong Guang X’s interior, but suspect it is still a work in progress. Nevertheless,
we know it will be a seven-seater and can expect the interior to have a similar
rugged appearance to the exterior. While most, if not all, auto shows have been
cancelled in the West, China went on with the 2020 Chengdu International Auto
Show that runs from July 24 through August 2.
