Chevrolet updated the Equinox for the 2021 model year, and now it has gone on sale in China. Offered in six versions, including three RS specs and with two powertrains, the Equinox can be had from RMB 169,900 to RMB 239,900 (US$ 24,890 to US$ 35,145). Accompanied by an 8-year/160,000-kilometer (99,419-mile) warranty for the major engine and transmission parts, the 2021 Equinox packs an eighth-gen 2.0-liter EcoTec four-pot, with the new nine-speed Hydra-Matic transmission.

It develops 233 HP at 5,000 rpm and 350 Nm of torque from 1,500 to 4,000 rpm, allowing the RS to hit 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds. The average fuel consumption is rated at 34.1 mpg US (6.9 l/100 km). Meanwhile, the turbo’d 1.5-liter unit, mated to a six-speed gearbox, returns the equivalent of 34.6 mpg (6.8 l/100 km).

 

The Equinox is equipped with four-wheel drive and rides on 19-inch wheels, with Goodyear low-rolling resistance tires. Setting itself apart from the rest of the range, the Equinox RS boasts a black grille and bowtie logos, a red RS badge, as well as leather upholstery inside with red stitching and piping, sporty steering wheel and gearshift lever, plus several RS inserts.

The MyLink+ infotainment system, which supports Apple CarPlay, Baidu CarLife and Bluetooth, and provides over-the-air updates, is on deck, alongside the heated and ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control with air filtration, active noise cancellation and Bose premium audio.

 

Safety gear includes automatic emergency braking, forward collision alert, lane departure warning, side blind zone alert, lane change alert and rear cross traffic alert.  In order to celebrate the launch of the 2021 Equinox in the People’s Republic, Chevrolet will have it on display at the Auto China 2020 show in Beijing, from September 26 to October 5.
