GMC is rolling out a series of upgrades for the 2021 Sierra, starting with new trailer technologies such as the Jack-Knife Alert, Trailer Length Indicator and the enhanced Rear Trailer View. These three features, together with the Rear Side View enhancement and Cargo Bed View enhancement are available on both 2021 GMC Sierra light-duty and heavy-duty models, which also get new colors, wheels and a few other goodies.

The Trailer Length Indicator is displayed as a red overlay twice the length of the compatible trailer on your screen, showing you when other vehicles are present and may interfere with a lane-changing maneuver. The Jack-Knife Alert meanwhile tracks the position of your trailer and warns you if the latter’s front end is approaching your truck, while the Rear Trailer View now gets guidelines and a Trailer-Angle Indicator to assist you while backing up.

As for the Rear Side View and Cargo Bed View enhancements, the former will give drivers a split view of the left and right sides of the truck and trailer while reversing, whereas the latter gets zoom and guidance functions, helpful for aligning and hooking up with a gooseneck/fifth-wheel trailer.

Light-duty 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 models now get the MultiPro Tailgate on SLE and Elevation trims, as well as a new selection of colors to go with the 20-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory tires and an off-road high-clearance step, now available on the Sierra 1500 AT4 variant. Other 2021 changes include the MSRP of the 3.0-liter Duramax turbo-diesel, which now costs US$ 1,500 less than before, or just US$ 995 more than the 5.3-liter V8.

Last but not least, the Sierra HD, which now boasts Surround Vision and the Bed View camera as standard on the Denali spec, while the new Sierra HD Denali Black Diamond Edition gains exclusive 20-inch high-gloss black wheels and new power-retractable assist steps, among other unique features. Then there’s the Sierra HD AT4 which now comes with available 18-inch Mud Terrain tires and high clearance step accessory. Also like the light-duty variant, you get the MultiPro Tailgate as standard on SLE-spec Sierra HDs, and three new colors.
