Hyundai has previewed the facelifted 2021
i30 N that will be available with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission for
the first time. In teaser images shared online by the South Korean automaker,
we’re provided with our first look at the refined body. Like the rest of the
facelifted i30 range, the new N model’s front fascia will be more aggressive
with an enlarged grille, angular air intakes, and rounded out by new headlights
with LED daytime running lights.
Elsewhere, we can see the facelifted i30 N
will be equipped with a set of new 19-inch forged wheels that help to save 14
kg of unsprung weight over the outgoing i30 N. Spin around to the
rear and we can see new taillights, enlarged tailpipes, and an aggressive new
diffuser.
The big news related to the updated i30 N
is the fact that it will be available with a wet eight-speed dual-clutch
transmission already available on the 2021 Veloster N. This transmission
features a handful of modes aimed at making it all the more enjoyable to
driver. For example, there is an ‘N Grin Shift’ mode that increases peak torque
from 260 lb-ft to 278 lb-ft through a turbocharger overboost setting. The
transmission also as an ‘N Power Shift’ mode that is engaged when the vehicle
accelerates with more than 90 per cent throttle.
The new i30 N will continue to be powered
by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing up to 271 hp.
Hyundai has yet to reveal if the entry-level 246 hp variant will continue to be
offered in select markets.
