BAIC’s Beijing brand has introduced the new Radiance concept in China. The company didn’t say much about the car, but it reportedly previews an upcoming production model that will complete with the Tesla Model S.
It’s an electric vehicle that
features a range of 800 km in the New European Driving Cycle
(NEDC). The model also has a Level 4 semi-autonomous driving system to battle
Tesla’s Autopilot.
Little else is known about the car, but it
features an enclosed grille, a metallic front splitter and a wide LED lighting
strip. Moving further back, there’s streamlined bodywork, flush-mounted door
handles and suicide rear doors. Other notable styling features include
aerodynamic wheels, video camera mirrors and a long flowing roofline. There are
also full-width LED taillights and a stylish greenhouse.
The upscale design continues in the cabin
as there are four individual seats which are separated by consoles. The seats
also have unique backrests with a semi-open center section that has a copper
colored surround.
Elsewhere, there’s a large infotainment
system and a digital instrument cluster mounted inside the steering wheel. The
interior also has a minimalist design and largely avoids traditional
switchgear. There’s no word on when the rumored production model will be
launched, but the Radiance looks far sleeker than the rest of Beijing’s lineup
which includes models such as the X3, X5 and BJ90.
